A WeDo Education Study Tour Story
Four years ago, a single screen opened a window to the world for a group of students in China. This July, that journey came full circle — the same students walked into a real Melbourne classroom for the first time.
From Screen to Classroom
For four years, WeDo Education has run online English classes with a partner school in China, pairing students with carefully selected native-English teachers. These weren’t simple vocabulary drills — students discussed real-world topics, debated different viewpoints, and learned to express and defend their own ideas. English became a tool for thinking, not just memorising.
Teachers grew alongside their students too, joining training, classroom observation and co-planning with WeDo’s teaching team — building a sustainable model that outlasted any single course.
Taking It Further: A Week in Melbourne
In July 2026, that cloud-based learning journey extended into the real world. Coordinated by WeDo Education, students travelled to Melbourne for a week-long immersive program at a local secondary school — attending classes alongside local students, pairing with student buddies, joining an EAL program, and staying with host families.
“Stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing the unfamiliar in a new language — that’s where real growth begins,” one student wrote in their study tour journal.
A Classroom Without Walls
Outside class, all of Australia became a place to learn — from bargaining at Queen Victoria Market to exploring Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney’s universities, museums, galleries, Parliament House and coastline.
More Than Language
What students gained went beyond English proficiency — independence in an unfamiliar environment, confidence through real conversation, and the ability to listen, understand and respect different perspectives.
Looking Ahead
This study tour wasn’t a one-off — it’s the natural next step in a multi-year partnership. WeDo Education looks forward to deepening this collaboration through ongoing online courses, teacher exchange, and future study tours.
